How Does CEREC® Work?

The CEREC® system combines computer-assisted design (CAD) and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM) to create full crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers on-site for single-day restorations. The CEREC® machine crafts a restorative dental device in a matter of minutes using specialized compressed porcelain. This allows patients to receive the treatment they need in just a single visit, rather than a series of visits over a matter of weeks.

How Are CEREC Restorations Applied?

The CEREC restoration process is straightforward. First, decay is removed from the tooth, then it’s shaped and coated with powder for a digital image taken by the CEREC machine. This 3D image is used for designing the restoration in real time by your dental professional.

Once the design is completed, the CEREC® machine will create your restoration. This step takes approximately 15 minutes. You can actually watch this process if you would like. When the restoration is finished, your dental professional will place the restoration appropriately and bond it to the tooth for a secure and long-lasting solution. The entire treatment process typically takes just over an hour.
